Recycling Operations Engineer Lead (Nuclear Fuel Recycling)

Location: Santa Clara, California, or remote within the United States. Remote employees must travel to the Santa Clara headquarters twice per quarter, and the first two weeks of onboarding are in person. Only applicants who meet the U.S. person definition under applicable export control laws may be eligible.

Salary: $130,000–$175,000 per year

What you will do

• Establish and maintain the facility concept of operations across normal, startup, shutdown, maintenance, upset, degraded, and emergency modes.
• Translate operational, safety, security, safeguards, material accountability, and regulatory needs into traceable design requirements, operating sequences, procedures, and acceptance criteria.
• Represent operations throughout design, construction, commissioning, startup, and production ramp-up.
• Review process documents, equipment specifications, layouts, control narratives, alarm strategies, human-machine interfaces, and safety-related design inputs.
• Lead operability, maintainability, accessibility, remote-handling, human-factors, failure-recovery, readiness, and pre-operational testing reviews.
• Build and lead the operations engineering organization while coordinating with engineering, safety, licensing, security, maintenance, construction, and project management teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in chemical, nuclear, mechanical, electrical, industrial, or another relevant engineering discipline, or equivalent applicable experience.
• 10 or more years of experience in nuclear fuel-cycle, nuclear, chemical, petrochemical, refining, specialty chemical, or another complex industrial process environment.
• Experience in facility operations, commissioning, startup, maintenance, or operational support combined with facility design or capital-project experience.
• Experience with greenfield facility development, brownfield modifications, commissioning, operational readiness, procedures, training, maintenance, or startup programs.
• Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, manage interfaces, review PFDs and P&IDs, and convert designs into practical operating requirements and test plans.
• Must meet the applicable U.S. person definition for potential access to export-controlled information.

Nice to have

• Experience with nuclear fuel-cycle or radioactive-material processing facilities, fuel recycling, pyroprocessing, molten salts, hot cells, remote handling, radiological ventilation, or radioactive waste treatment.
• Experience delivering first-of-a-kind nuclear, chemical, or industrial process facilities.
• Knowledge of NRC, DOE, or comparable nuclear regulatory requirements.
• Experience with HAZOPs, process hazard analyses, human-factors evaluations, pre-startup safety reviews, control systems, alarm management, or operator training.
• Experience building operations engineering, commissioning, startup, or plant technical-support teams.
