Senior Software Engineer (Lab Informatics)

What you will do

• Architect, develop, and maintain a digital laboratory platform using Benchling.
• Configure Benchling schemas, Registry entities, Results, Inventory, workflows, notebook templates, and applications.
• Build production applications and integrations with Benchling APIs, SDKs, Apps, App Canvas, and webhooks.
• Design scientific data models and integrate laboratory instruments, automation platforms, and internal or external software.
• Develop analytics, dashboards, and data applications using Benchling Insights, SQL, Python, and visualization frameworks.
• Provide technical leadership through architecture discussions, code reviews, documentation, training, troubleshooting, and mentorship.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Software Engineering, Computational Biology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of professional software engineering or scientific informatics experience.
• Hands-on Benchling development experience, including Apps, App Canvas, APIs/SDK, Events, Insights, and Data Warehouse.
• Strong Python and SQL skills, with experience developing production applications, APIs, integrations, REST APIs, webhooks, authentication, and authorization.
• Experience with Git, automated testing, code review, CI/CD, modern software engineering practices, and structured data models.
• Working knowledge of life-science R&D workflows and the ability to collaborate with scientists and technical stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Experience with Benchling Registry, Inventory, Results, schemas, workflows, and notebook templates.
• Experience integrating laboratory instruments or automation systems with informatics platforms.
• Experience with Plotly/Dash, Streamlit, Tableau, Spotfire, or similar scientific analytics tools.
• Background in biologics, antibody discovery, protein science, molecular biology, or related life-science R&D.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure and containerized application development.
