Managing Editor (Politics and Leadership)

Location: Washington, DC; hybrid schedule with daily presence required at the office at 1201 Pennsylvania Avenue, 6th Floor.

Salary: $120,000–$140,000 per year

What you will do

• Set editorial direction for coverage of the legislative, executive, and judicial branches of the federal government and political campaigns.
• Manage editors and reporters and determine content for CQ Magazine, newsletters, websites, and Roll Call newspaper.
• Coordinate editorial operations, production, assignments, committee coverage, congressional profiles, and cross-platform content needs.
• Provide constructive feedback, coaching, and mentoring to editors, staff writers, and direct reports.
• Write, edit, and perform second edits for coverage, columnists, and newsletters.
• Moderate panel discussions, webinars, podcasts, and other newsroom or corporate events.

Requirements

• Experience working in a newsroom in an editor role.
• 10+ years of experience in daily journalism, preferably covering federal policy and political stories.
• At least 3 years of management experience with increasing levels of responsibility.
• Knowledge of CQ and Roll Call systems and processes.
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
• Four published writing samples from newspapers, news websites, or news magazines are required.
