Senior Politics, Policy, and Ideas Editor (Politics)

Location: Based in either the Washington, D.C. or New York office

Salary: $120,000–$150,000 USD per year

What you will do

• Manage and lead a team of 3–4 reporters, assigning and editing fast news analysis and longer-horizon features.
• Set the direction for political coverage and identify distinctive, analytical, and deeply informed angles.
• Shape stories and broader coverage plans to ensure strong arguments, evidence, clarity, and editorial alignment.
• Collaborate with senior politics and policy editors and colleagues across the multimedia newsroom.
• Develop opportunities to extend journalism across audio, video, social video, and newsletters.
• Connect the political report with Vox’s broader audience, membership, and editorial strategy.

Requirements

• 5 years of editing experience.
• Strong leadership, management, communication, and editing skills.
• Excellent news judgment and a demonstrated ability to develop sharp angles and analysis.
• Analytical rigor, including the ability to pressure-test arguments and engage seriously with opposing views.
• Experience editing explanatory journalism and intellectual or analytical claims with nuance and clarity.
• Passion for making complex concepts accessible through journalism.
