Sustaining Engineer Intern - Grand Rapids Site (Aerospace)

Location: On-site in Grand Rapids, Michigan, during the internship period

What you will do

• Update and maintain mechanical drawings, CAD models, BOMs, specifications, and released production documentation.
• Support sustaining engineering for housings, enclosures, brackets, structural assemblies, and PCB/CCA documentation.
• Assist with fit, form, function, electrical interface, insulation, materials, and vacuum-jacketed design documentation.
• Research engineering change records, specifications, qualification reports, test data, and legacy documentation.
• Document design rationale, assumptions, constraints, and traceability to preserve engineering knowledge.
• Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams and support production problem-solving and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• Must be able to work on-site in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
• Must qualify as a U.S. Person to access information, technology, software, or hardware subject to U.S. export control laws.
• Strong attention to detail, organization, technical analysis, and clear written and verbal communication.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Nice to have

• Experience with 3D CAD and drafting software such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD.
• Familiarity with mechanical drawings, GD&T, and tolerance analysis.
• Exposure to enclosure, housing, sheet metal, machined part, or structural assembly design.
• Understanding of thermal management, insulation methods, or vacuum-jacketed systems.
• Experience researching and synthesizing engineering documentation through coursework, labs, internships, or extracurricular projects.
