TL;DR
Mechanical Engineering Intern (Aerospace) (spacecraft hardware): Supporting the development, build, and testing of mechanical concepts and hardware for spacecraft with an accent on hands-on engineering and testing for extreme space environments. Focus on applying aerospace and mechanical engineering knowledge, developing hardware concepts, and collaborating with mentors and cross-functional teams to deliver tested spacecraft components.

Location: Long Beach, California, United States; full-time, on-site for at least 12 consecutive weeks beginning in January, February, or March 2027

Salary: $28 USD per hour

What you will do

  • Support the development of new spacecraft concepts and mechanical hardware.
  • Build and test designs for performance in extreme space environments.
  • Help deliver fully tested hardware to the spacecraft integration team.
  • Apply engineering and industry concepts to solve practical technical challenges.
  • Collaborate with mentors, supervisors, and department colleagues while providing progress updates.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in a bachelor's, master's, or doctorate program in aerospace, aeronautical, astronautical, or mechanical engineering.
  • Must have at least one semester remaining after the internship.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • At least 3 months of applied engineering experience through internships, laboratories, or personal/team projects.
  • Must be able to work full-time on-site for a minimum of 12 consecutive weeks.
  • For U.S. offices, candidates must meet applicable U.S. ITAR eligibility or authorization requirements.

Nice to have

  • GPA of 3.5 or above and at least 6 months of applied engineering experience.
  • CAD/CAM software experience, including NX and Teamcenter.
  • Finite Element Analysis experience with ANSYS, Simcenter 3D, or FEMAP/NASTRAN.
  • Experience with 3D printing, GD&T, lathe machining, or spacecraft design principles.
