Mechanical Engineering Intern Summer 2027 (Aerospace)

Location: Silver Spring, Maryland, United States; full-time, on-site for at least 12 consecutive weeks beginning May or June 2027

Pay rate: $25.00 USD per hour

What you will do

• Support the Space Systems Division in producing flight mechanisms for separation systems.
• Apply engineering and industry concepts to solve real technical challenges.
• Work with a mentor and department employees to develop technical and professional skills.
• Provide progress updates through regular one-to-one meetings with mentors and supervisors.
• Collaborate across teams and contribute to development projects.

Requirements

• Be enrolled in a bachelor's, master's, or doctorate program in engineering, physics, or mathematics, with at least one semester remaining after the internship.
• Have a GPA of at least 3.0.
• Have at least 3 months of applied engineering experience through an internship, laboratory, or personal/team project.
• Be able to work full-time on-site for at least 12 consecutive weeks beginning May or June 2027.
• For work in U.S. offices, meet applicable ITAR eligibility requirements, including U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residence, refugee or asylee status, or eligibility to obtain the required authorizations.

Nice to have

• GPA of 3.5 or above.
• Six or more months of applied engineering experience.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks and Siemens NX, plus experience with CAD/CAM.
• Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing and machining.
• Python experience.
