Information and Influence Reporter (AI)

Location: Washington, D.C. newsroom; exceptional candidates in New York or San Francisco may be considered. On-site five days a week.

Salary: $120,000–$165,000 per year

What you will do

• Break news about the people, organizations and platforms shaping the information ecosystem.
• Report on misinformation, disinformation, online influence campaigns and the changing digital media landscape.
• Cover artificial intelligence, creator economies and emerging technologies in information production and distribution.
• Investigate how political actors, technology companies, media organizations and online communities influence public understanding.
• Follow money, incentives and power to explain how information ecosystems are built, sustained and monetized.
• Produce breaking news, enterprise investigations, explanatory journalism, reported analysis and narrative storytelling across newsletters, social media, video, podcasts and live events.

Requirements

• Track record of impactful reporting on technology, media, politics, business or related subjects.
• Strong news judgment and an instinct for identifying consequential trends.
• Experience covering complex systems and explaining them clearly to broad audiences.
• Excellent reporting, interviewing and source-building skills.
• Ability to produce both breaking news and ambitious enterprise journalism.
• Commitment to accuracy, fairness and high journalistic standards.
