General Assignment Reporter, Business and Technology

Location: Washington, D.C., United States; on-site five days a week

Salary: $90,000–$140,000 per year

What you will do

• Cover breaking news and emerging developments across business and technology.
• Identify consequential trends and explain their significance to readers.
• Produce fast, accurate, authoritative reporting with clear context.
• Develop explanatory journalism about markets, personal finance, energy, artificial intelligence, jobs, consumers, and finance.
• Collaborate with reporters, editors, visual journalists, and colleagues across health, science, climate, and environmental coverage.
• Experiment with storytelling formats and contribute to newsletters, social media, video, podcasts, and other digital platforms.

Requirements

• Track record of strong reporting in a fast-paced newsroom.
• Exceptional news judgment and the ability to identify stories with lasting significance.
• Ability to report and write quickly while maintaining accuracy and clarity.
• Strong reporting, interviewing, source-building, writing, and explanatory storytelling skills.
• Intellectual curiosity and the ability to rapidly develop expertise across diverse subjects.
• Commitment to accuracy, fairness, collaboration, and high journalistic standards.
