Senior Reporter, Health Payer Specialist

Location: New York, United States. Hybrid model requiring staff to work onsite 50% of the time, subject to role requirements and review.

Salary: $85,000–$95,000 per year for the NYC office.

What you will do

• Report and write several health insurance articles each week across different formats and levels of depth.
• Break news and develop scoops, enterprise stories, and analytical coverage for a specialist audience.
• Monitor company and government filings, earnings disclosures, reporting deadlines, and data releases for news opportunities.
• Build and maintain trusted relationships with insurance executives and other industry sources.
• Collaborate on videos, graphics, and other editorial formats, including occasional interview-based videos.
• Travel to industry events, meet sources, and occasionally moderate webcasts or panels.

Requirements

• At least three years of business reporting experience, including experience at a daily or wire publication.
• Editing experience and a record of producing high-quality breaking-news journalism.
• Experience covering healthcare, the payer ecosystem, or another industry in depth.
• Ability to lead a beat, generate scoops, and produce content for a specialist or niche audience.
• Strong source-building, news judgment, writing, analytical, and research skills.
• Ability to work accurately at pace while handling detailed SEC filings, earnings reports, disclosures, and longer-term reporting.
