TL;DR
Electrical Engineer (Fusion Energy): Designing, installing, testing, and commissioning high-power electrical systems for SPARC fusion power systems with an accent on medium- and low-voltage distribution, power conversion, energy storage, and electrical safety. Focus on developing technical requirements, validating designs through simulation and functional testing, coordinating cross-functional execution, and releasing construction-ready electrical packages.

Location: Devens, Massachusetts, United States; on-site. The role may require occasional travel, nights, weekends, and on-call work.

Salary: $90,000–$145,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

  • Install, test, commission, and hand over complex pulsed and steady-state high-power electrical systems for SPARC.
  • Design and improve switchgear, transformers, switchboards, panelboards, reactors, semiconductor devices, cooling systems, and control systems.
  • Develop vendor equipment requirements, control narratives, operating concepts, commissioning procedures, test methods, and test plans.
  • Lead electrical work package releases, including equipment lists, drawings, and schematics.
  • Coordinate with R&D, physics, construction, manufacturing, software, testing, compliance, commissioning, and external vendors.
  • Apply electrical safety practices and compliance standards while developing future in-house power technologies.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of related experience with a bachelor’s degree, or 2+ years with a master’s degree, in electrical distribution systems or battery-based systems.
  • Experience designing and implementing power systems, including medium- and low-voltage AC/DC distribution, power conversion, and energy storage.
  • Experience with modeling, simulation, analysis, and validation through functional testing.
  • Knowledge of the National Electric Code and IEEE standards for three-phase power systems, plus experience writing electrical equipment specifications.
  • Ability to lead electrical system execution in a construction setting and communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work around industrial hazards including high voltage, high current, strong magnets, lead, pressure systems, and cryogenics.

Nice to have

  • Experience with construction, manufacturing, testing, field installations, energy storage, root cause analysis, and prototype development.
  • Experience with MFiles, NX, Teamcenter, ETAP, SKM, Easypower, protective relay programming, AutoCAD, Aveva Electrical, Bluebeam, grounding, bonding, and lightning protection.
  • Experience designing industrial AC distribution, emergency generators, and uninterruptible power supplies.
