New Business Underwriter (Property & Casualty Insurance)

Location: Ephrata, Washington, USA; onsite

Annual salary: $60,000–$95,000, depending on experience.

What you will do

• Make independent underwriting decisions and determine the acceptability of new and renewal business.
• Underwrite applications and renewal submissions in accordance with applicable Letters of Authority.
• Evaluate and quote prospective new members while maintaining underwriting integrity.
• Develop and monitor underwriting rates, guidelines, strategies, and quality-control initiatives.
• Review competitor quotes, binders, and policy forms and compare them with pool coverage.
• Provide technical insurance guidance, train Underwriter I and underwriting assistants, and support carrier marketing programs.

Requirements

• High school diploma.
• Ability to obtain a Washington State Property & Casualty Insurance Producers License within 12 months. Courses and testing are provided.
• Advanced underwriting capability for complex programs.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to learn other business software.
• Strong oral and written communication, analytical, organizational, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
• Regular onsite attendance and professional office dress are required.

Nice to have

• Prior insurance experience.
• College degree.
• Business mathematics or basic accounting skills.
