Senior Full Stack Engineer (PHP)

Location: Waterloo, Ontario, Canada; hybrid work

What you will do

• Own product features end to end, from requirements clarification and technical design through implementation and production validation.
• Build and maintain responsive web experiences, REST APIs, integrations, data workflows, and automated test coverage.
• Lead architecture and technical decisions balancing user experience, reliability, performance, and maintainability.
• Collaborate with Product, Engineering, DevOps, Customer Success, and other stakeholders to manage technical risk.
• Investigate production issues, improve observability and resilience, and support effective resolution.
• Mentor engineers through design reviews, implementation guidance, and constructive technical feedback.

Requirements

• Strong PHP experience with Laravel as the primary framework; experience with Symfony or another modern PHP framework is also relevant.
• Strong TypeScript, modern JavaScript, and Vue.js experience, including single-page applications and reusable component architectures.
• Experience designing REST APIs, integrating frontend and backend services, and working with relational databases such as MySQL or PostgreSQL.
• Experience with Eloquent ORM, migrations, relational data modelling, authentication, authorization, background jobs, caching, and production troubleshooting.
• Experience with frontend and backend automated testing using tools such as Vitest, Jest, Playwright, Cypress, PHPUnit, or Pest.
• System-design, architecture, technical leadership, Git, CI/CD, and responsible use of AI-assisted engineering tools.

Nice to have

• Experience with maps, geospatial data, or data-visualization libraries.
• Experience with IoT products where hardware, software, and networking intersect.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or cloud-native operational practices.
• Experience with design systems, Figma, accessibility, frontend performance optimization, queues, events, Redis, or Horizon.
