Field Services Engineer II, Automation Solutions

Location: Field-based in Maryland or California, USA; up to 100% travel, including international travel

Annual base salary: $88,100–$134,400

What you will do

• Conduct site surveys and lead installation, commissioning, and integration of automated assay systems at customer sites.
• Provide on-site and remote troubleshooting, servicing, and preventive maintenance for plate-handling and fluid-handling components.
• Train customers and field service engineers, and create customer-facing and internal documentation.
• Maintain detailed service records and collaborate with engineering and product development teams on system improvements.
• Develop service processes, procedures, checklists, and best practices for field operations.
• Travel extensively to support installations and ongoing system operations in customer laboratories.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, life sciences, or a related field, or equivalent military or work experience.
• At least five years of experience in field service engineering, systems integration, or a related technical role.
• Hands-on experience with automated laboratory systems, liquid-handling equipment, or robotics.
• Knowledge of automation technologies, robotics, control systems, diagnostic tools, software logs, and test scripts.
• Proficiency with MS Windows, MS Office, basic networking, hand tools, and inspection equipment.
• Ability to travel extensively, work flexible hours, lift up to 50 pounds regularly, and occasionally assist with equipment weighing up to 75 pounds.

Nice to have

• Experience developing field service procedures, training materials, and standardized service operations.
• Familiarity with NGS systems, GCMS, large-scale automated liquid handlers, or robotics service.
• Knowledge of ISO standards, GLP, and Good Documentation Practices.
• Experience in life sciences, drug discovery, or clinical laboratory industries.
