Field Service Technician (Industrial Automation)

Location: Jackson, MI, United States. Field service role requiring approximately 75% travel, including frequent overnight trips throughout the U.S. and Canada and occasional international assignments.

Salary: $70,000–$100,000 per year

What you will do

• Install, commission, start up, test, and set up automated equipment at customer facilities.
• Perform mechanical assembly, electrical wiring, machine upgrades, retrofits, and system enhancements.
• Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, PLC, and industrial controls issues using PLC software and machine controls.
• Read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical drawings to diagnose equipment problems.
• Train customers on equipment operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
• Coordinate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Sales, and Technical Support while completing detailed service reports and recommendations.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of experience servicing industrial machinery, automation systems, packaging equipment, or similar manufacturing equipment.
• Strong mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and machine troubleshooting skills.
• Working knowledge of PLCs and industrial controls.
• Ability to independently diagnose equipment problems and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Comfort with approximately 75% travel and frequent overnight assignments.

Nice to have

• Mechatronics experience.
• Experience with packaging, food processing, bakery, or automated manufacturing equipment.
• PLC troubleshooting or programming experience.
• Experience with servo systems, VFDs, HMIs, pneumatics, hydraulics, or industrial networking.
• Technical certification, an associate degree, military technical training, or equivalent experience.
