Employee, Labor Health and Safety Specialist (Manufacturing)

Location: Hybrid, 4 days per week in-office and 1 day remote, in Fort Mill, South Carolina, or Portland, Oregon, United States. Applicants may work in or relocate to one of these locations. Travel up to 80%.

Salary: $104,000–$133,000 USD per year, depending on knowledge, skills, and experience.

What you will do

• Partner with site leadership, operations, engineering, maintenance, medical staff, union representatives, contractors, and the Corporate Safety Team to achieve safety objectives.
• Support greenfield manufacturing projects by integrating safety requirements into facility design, construction, equipment installation, commissioning, and operational readiness.
• Lead and support risk assessments, design reviews, contractor safety management, pre-startup safety reviews, and operational readiness evaluations.
• Coordinate safety requirements for capital projects, facility modifications, equipment installations, and process improvements.
• Facilitate incident investigations, corrective actions, regulatory inspections, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Analyze safety metrics, leading indicators, and trends to identify risks and improve safety performance.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in safety, industrial hygiene, engineering, environmental health, occupational health, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience supporting occupational safety programs in manufacturing, industrial, construction, engineering, or operational environments.
• Working knowledge of OSHA, NOM, CSA, NFPA, NEC, ANSI, and applicable safety regulations and standards.
• Experience with capital projects, facility construction, equipment installations, process improvements, or operational readiness initiatives.
• Knowledge of risk assessment, incident investigation, safety management systems, continuous improvement, occupational health, and injury management.
• Must be legally authorized to work permanently in the United States and must not require visa sponsorship.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in safety, engineering, project management, or a related field.
• Experience in a unionized manufacturing environment, multi-site operations, manufacturing start-ups, greenfield projects, or major expansions.
• Knowledge of Enablon or similar EHS management systems.
• ASP, CSP, CHST, CAPM, or other relevant safety or project management certification.
• Experience with safety analytics, digital technologies, design reviews, contractor safety management, commissioning, or pre-startup safety reviews.
