Staff Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Sunnyvale, California, United States; onsite at the Crossman Respect Building Home Office

Salary: $143,000–$286,000 per year, plus performance bonuses and possible stock compensation.

What you will do

• Design and build scalable, resilient billing solutions for Walmart Fulfillment Services.
• Develop platform capabilities, infrastructure, tooling, and ML frameworks aligned with roadmap priorities.
• Complete the full software development lifecycle, including coding, testing, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
• Apply cloud-native architecture principles and lead system design reviews for high-scale services.
• Build AI-driven applications by integrating ML components and intelligent automation features.
• Mentor engineers, influence technical decisions, and collaborate across teams using data-driven success metrics.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant computer science or engineering field with 4 years of software engineering experience, or 6 years of relevant software engineering experience.
• Strong Java and Spring Boot experience for backend services and APIs.
• Expertise in cloud-native architecture, microservices, containers, and automation.
• Experience with Apache Spark, Apache Kafka, DevOps engineering, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure tooling.
• Ability to lead design reviews, apply software design patterns, mentor engineers, and influence technical decisions.
• Experience integrating AI/ML components and building intelligent automation features.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• Knowledge of WCAG 2.2 AA, assistive technologies, and digital accessibility best practices.
