TL;DR
Systems Engineer III - Test (Aerospace): Planning, integrating, executing, and analyzing rocket motor tests and subsystem verification with an accent on propulsion, avionics, control systems, instrumentation, and test data. Focus on preparing hot-fire test facilities, troubleshooting complex integration issues, supporting HWIL/SWIL verification, and leading test readiness and anomaly resolution activities.

Location: Reno, Nevada or Folsom, California, United States. The role requires travel to test facilities and rocket motor test operations as needed.

Base salary: $97,945–$151,400 USD annually, with location-specific ranges of $97,945–$143,830 in Nevada and $103,100–$151,400 in California. The position is incentive-plan eligible.

What you will do

  • Develop and execute test plans, procedures, and requirements for rocket motor testing and subsystem verification.
  • Lead integration and checkout of propulsion, avionics, and control systems for rocket motor test campaigns.
  • Coordinate instrumentation wiring, sensor calibration, control-system verification, and data-acquisition integration.
  • Prepare test facilities and support equipment for hot-fire testing and support Test Readiness Reviews.
  • Analyze propulsion test data, document findings, and recommend solutions for anomalies and system improvements.
  • Support test software development, hardware-in-the-loop, and software-in-the-loop verification while mentoring junior engineers and leading small test teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in systems, aerospace, mechanical, electrical engineering, or a related STEM field.
  • Four to seven years of progressive aerospace or defense test-engineering experience.
  • Hands-on experience with rocket motor integration, subsystem verification, hot-fire test campaigns, test safety, MIL-STD, and propulsion qualification or acceptance testing.
  • Experience with HWIL/SWIL, test software development and automation, hardware and software integration, troubleshooting, and data analysis.
  • Proficiency with instrumentation and DAQ systems, RS-422, RS-485, CAN, C/C++, MATLAB, Python, and Simulink.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a US Government Clearance. Strong technical writing and communication skills are required for test reports, TRRs, PDRs, CDRs, and anomaly-resolution reviews.
