Senior Engineer, Distribution System Planning

Location: Westwood, Massachusetts; hybrid schedule with travel between Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New Hampshire as necessary

What you will do

• Lead scenario-based distribution planning studies involving multiple feeders and substations, including load relief, capacity, asset, and distributed energy resource integration planning.
• Build, maintain, and validate electrical distribution models for low-voltage meshed networks and secondary distribution topologies using power-system simulation tools.
• Conduct load-flow, transient, 8760-hour, voltage, power-factor, N-1, and N-2 contingency studies.
• Develop proposals for new distribution substations and overhead and underground feeders, including economic analysis and capital project prioritization.
• Prepare technical documentation, reports, testimony, and regulatory filings for proceedings before public utility commissions and other agencies.
• Coordinate cross-functional groups, guide engineers, communicate recommendations to management, customers, regulators, and industry committees.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required; Electric Power Systems preferred. An advanced degree is preferred.
• At least five years of experience in distribution line, distribution substation, and underground network planning, design, and operations.
• Advanced knowledge of electrical theory, distribution line design, operating practices, and distribution system expansion planning.
• Hands-on experience with Synergi Electric, CYME, or equivalent power-system simulation software.
• Knowledge of photovoltaic solar, electric vehicles, battery storage, and applicable national and state planning standards.
• Immigration-related visa sponsorship is not available; applicants requiring sponsorship to start employment will not be considered. Availability for emergency restoration assignments and travel between MA, CT, and NH is required.

Nice to have

• Professional Engineer registration in Connecticut, Massachusetts, or New Hampshire.
• Experience with regulatory testimony, formal presentations, and strategic cross-functional partnerships.
