What you will do

  • Conduct distribution studies covering voltage, thermal loading, N-1 contingencies, power factor, short circuit, flicker, reliability, and resiliency.
  • Analyze distributed energy resource interconnections, including photovoltaic systems and battery storage, as well as new customer load interconnections across multiple voltage levels.
  • Apply distribution planning criteria and utility engineering practices to identify system deficiencies and develop recommendations.
  • Recommend distribution automation devices and support grid automation and non-wires alternative initiatives.
  • Use GIS mapping, power-flow, protection-analysis, and other distribution planning tools to improve planning accuracy and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and industry peers, support knowledge development, and assist with storm restoration efforts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering required; a power systems concentration is preferred.
  • 0–2 years of industry-related experience; relevant transmission and distribution, protection and control, or other engineering experience may be considered.
  • Knowledge of power-system studies, including power flow, distributed energy resources, voltage, contingency, phase imbalance, power factor correction, short circuit, capacity, and distribution automation.
  • Ability to interpret and document engineering work and review work completed by others.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulatory standards, including NERC, NPCC, ISO, and PUC requirements.
  • Initial or competent proficiency with power-system analytics software such as CYME, PSS/E, or ASPEN.
