Senior Substation Engineer (High Voltage)

Location: Hybrid role based in Baltimore, Maryland, United States

Salary: $103,200–$141,900 per year; eligible positions may receive a 15% annual bonus

What you will do

• Own and maintain transmission and substation design standards, template drawings, material specifications, construction specifications, job processes, and engineering practices.
• Serve as a subject matter expert and design authority for high-voltage physical design and substation equipment applications across 13kV, 34kV, 115kV, 230kV, and 500kV systems.
• Review, update, and facilitate implementation of standards in collaboration with substation, transmission, protection and control, operations, maintenance, planning, and field teams.
• Work with vendors and industry organizations to improve materials, designs, reliability, safety, and constructability.
• Investigate failure modes and industry trends, provide recommendations to management, and implement reliability improvement plans.
• Provide technical training, mentorship, peer review, and guidance while leading multidisciplinary initiatives as needed.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or a Professional Engineer license; graduate-level education in electrical, mechanical, power systems, or a related field is expected.
• At least 7 years of professional engineering experience and at least 5 years of substation engineering or design experience in high-voltage physical design or substation equipment.
• Experience executing substation projects and knowledge of key deliverables, including 30%, 60%, 90%, and IFC packages.
• Experience applying or developing standardized drawings and documents for substation projects.
• Knowledge of engineering principles, applicable standards and codes, complex electrical and mechanical systems, and engineering analysis software.
• Strong written, oral, interpersonal, teamwork, and technical leadership skills.
