Lead Software Engineer Java, Platform Engineering (Java)

Location: US - Foster City, CA; hybrid with at least 3 days in the office. Travel required 5–10% of the time.

Salary: $192,300–$307,600 USD per year, with potential bonus and equity eligibility.

What you will do

• Design, build, and evolve shared Java/J2EE services supporting multiple hirify.global products and platforms.
• Lead the development of scalable, secure, reusable, cloud-native, and containerized services.
• Define architecture, API design, security, scalability, and Java development standards.
• Design highly available systems for payment services, transaction platforms, real-time payments, and Buy Now Pay Later capabilities.
• Partner with Product, Engineering, Security, SRE, Architecture, QA, and DevOps stakeholders to deliver platform capabilities.
• Mentor engineers and drive improvements in platform reliability, operational excellence, and developer productivity.

Requirements

• 10+ years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree, or equivalent experience with an advanced degree or PhD.
• Strong expertise in Java, Core Java, J2EE, RESTful services, and enterprise integration.
• Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP, and multi-cloud strategies.
• Experience designing highly available, scalable distributed systems and consumer-facing applications at scale.
• Strong knowledge of secure API design, authentication and authorization, API gateways, security standards, CI/CD, observability, and production operations.
• Proven technical leadership, cross-functional collaboration, communication, mentoring, and delivery ownership.

Nice to have

• Experience integrating AI tools and services to improve platform intelligence and developer productivity.
• Experience with Unix/Linux commercial software development and Agile/Scrum teams.
