Director, Software Engineering: Java (Fintech)

Location: Chicago, United States; hybrid work with up to 2 days per week of remote work

What you will do

• Direct a diverse software engineering team building foundational components for the Renaissance Risk Platform.
• Lead architecture and implementation of enterprise financial risk processing systems and real-time event-driven microservices.
• Design and optimize low-latency, fault-tolerant financial data pipelines using Apache Kafka and Apache Flink.
• Execute AWS cloud migration and CI/CD modernization using Jenkins, Harness, and Docker while supporting zero-downtime delivery.
• Establish production observability frameworks with Splunk and AppDynamics for monitoring, anomaly detection, and incident resolution.
• Translate business requirements into scalable architecture proposals, transition plans, and enterprise reference architectures.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field.
• At least seven years of experience as an application developer, software engineer, Java developer, or in a related role.
• Experience designing high-concurrency, low-latency risk computation engines and integrating quantitative risk models.
• Deep expertise in Java, Spring Boot, Apache Kafka, and Apache Flink, including performance profiling, memory optimization, and throughput tuning.
• Experience with AWS infrastructure, Jenkins, Harness, Docker, Splunk, and AppDynamics.
• Ability to work in or near the Chicago office under the hybrid arrangement.
