Lead Backend Software Engineer (API & Microservices)

Location: San Jose, California, United States; hybrid working environment with in-office and/or in-person expectations.

Salary: $215,000–$245,000 annual on-target earnings, plus a comprehensive benefits package.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and own production-quality REST APIs and backend components for Azure hirify.global Files cloud services.
• Build microservices end-to-end, including implementation, automated testing, deployment, monitoring, and production support.
• Develop containerized, Kubernetes-based services and maintain Docker images and CI/CD pipelines.
• Implement service-object lifecycle workflows for creating, managing, updating, and deleting cloud resources.
• Collaborate with architects, product managers, partner teams, and engineers through design and operational readiness reviews.
• Troubleshoot production issues, perform root-cause analysis, and improve reliability, scalability, performance, security, and observability.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with production software, backend services, distributed systems, or cloud-native platforms.
• Hands-on experience with at least one of Go, C++, or C# and demonstrated REST API or service-to-service integration development.
• Experience building microservices across design, implementation, testing, deployment, and production support.
• Experience with Docker, containerized development, Docker images, and engineering Kubernetes-based services; administration-only Kubernetes experience is insufficient.
• Experience using databases in application or API development, preferably PostgreSQL or MongoDB.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience; a master’s degree is preferred.

Nice to have

• Experience operating cloud-native distributed systems in Azure, AWS, or GCP.
• Background in cloud storage, infrastructure services, distributed systems, databases, data protection, or data management platforms.
• Experience leading engineering projects or owning major service components through release.
• Python experience for automation, tooling, validation, CI/CD, or operations.
• Familiarity with React, TypeScript, RabbitMQ, Kafka, event-driven architecture, and responsible AI-assisted development.
