Principal Software Developer (Backend)

Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Salary: CAD 131,000–191,400 annually base salary for Canada-based roles.

What you will do

• Build scalable backend services and cloud infrastructure for AEC data validation and collaboration capabilities.
• Develop and maintain reliable, secure, and high-performance cloud services.
• Design and integrate distributed systems and RESTful APIs with internal and external team APIs.
• Maintain code quality through automated deployments, unit and integration testing, CI/CD, and continuous improvement.
• Mentor developers, document and present technical solutions, and support on-time delivery of team commitments.
• Participate in on-call rotations for production systems and monitor backend performance.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software development experience building enterprise-level cloud services.
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Experience building backend cloud services with Java.
• Strong knowledge of cloud architecture, serverless computing, microservices, infrastructure as code, GitOps, and AWS best practices.
• Hands-on experience with AWS ECS, Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, RDS, SQS, and SNS, plus relational and NoSQL databases.
• Experience with security, authentication, authorization, distributed systems, RESTful APIs, performance optimization, and CI/CD pipelines such as Jenkins or GitHub Actions.

Nice to have

• Experience with event-driven architecture.
• Significant hands-on experience with AI-powered development tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or VS Code Copilot.
• Familiarity with specification-driven development and agentic coding tools.
