Senior Software Engineer (Java)

Location: Hybrid in Kitchener-Waterloo, Canada; candidates must reside within commutable distance of the specified office and attend regular in-office team events.

Salary: CAD 142,000–158,000 per year, plus bonus and benefits.

What you will do

• Identify, prioritize, and execute tasks across the software development lifecycle.
• Iterate on software requirements with business stakeholders and collaborate with internal teams and vendors.
• Develop clean, efficient Java applications, tools, and RESTful APIs.
• Automate tasks, analyze and debug systems, and keep software current with modern technologies.
• Perform test-driven validation and verification, including automated testing.
• Review code, participate in peer reviews, and improve product quality and reliability.

Requirements

• Experience writing clean, high-performing Java code at scale and working with Spring Boot.
• In-depth knowledge of relational databases such as Microsoft SQL Server or MySQL.
• Solid experience developing RESTful API endpoints and applying test-driven development.
• Proficiency with Git, system and performance monitoring tools, and automated testing frameworks.
• Strong organization, critical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, and self-management skills.
• BSc/BA in Computer Science or a related field, or proven professional engineering experience.

Nice to have

• UI development with Vue, React, or Angular; React and Selenium automation experience.
• Docker, Kubernetes, Istio, Ansible, Jenkins CI/CD, Linux, and IP networking experience.
• AWS, Azure, SAML, OAuth, OpenID Connect, SaaS, service-oriented architecture, or scripting experience.
• Generative AI code assistant experience, including GitHub Copilot, and knowledge of current generative AI models.
• Production on-call experience or professional mentoring experience.
