Medium Voltage Engineering Manager (AI Infrastructure)

Location: United States; ideally based in the San Francisco, Long Beach, or Houston offices. Full-time onsite work is expected outside of bi-weekly work-from-home Fridays, with exceptions possible for exceptional candidates outside these hubs.

What you will do

• Lead the electrical engineering design and specification of 5kV–38kV medium voltage switchgear, including bus configurations, breakers, and enclosures.
• Own protection and relay coordination studies, short-circuit analyses, and arc-flash hazard assessments.
• Review and approve single-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, and switchgear schematics for accuracy and compliance with NEC, IEEE, ANSI/NEMA, and NETA standards.
• Manage switchgear OEM relationships, technical bids, specifications, submittals, and factory acceptance testing.
• Partner with construction and commissioning teams to support field installation and startup.
• Manage, mentor, and grow MV engineering staff while setting technical standards and resolving issues across procurement, construction, and operations.

Requirements

• 8+ years of electrical engineering experience focused on medium voltage power distribution systems.
• 3+ years of directly managing or leading engineering teams.
• Hands-on experience with medium voltage switchgear design, specification, testing, OEM submittals, and factory acceptance testing.
• Strong knowledge of protective relay coordination, short-circuit studies, and arc-flash analysis.
• Proficiency with SKM, ETAP, or equivalent power system study tools.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to have

• Professional Engineer license.
• Experience with MV systems in data centers, utilities, or hyperscale infrastructure.
• Transformer manufacturing or transformer/switchgear integration experience.
• Experience with arc-resistant switchgear design.
• Familiarity with SCADA and protection relay programming, including SEL or GE Multilin.
