Medical Stop Loss Underwriting Consultant (Insurance)

What you will do

• Underwrite new and renewal business within an assigned medical stop loss block.
• Use rating manuals, experience modules, and clinical expertise to develop pricing supporting P/L, renewal metrics, and new business sales.
• Collaborate with Sales, Underwriting, and Clinical teams on pricing actions and financial targets.
• Monitor block performance, identify emerging financial trends, and develop strategies to improve case-level and block results.
• Support sales negotiations for renewals and new business as a subject matter expert.
• Train and coach lower-level staff and improve underwriting guidelines, processes, and tools.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Finance, Business Administration or Management, or Computer and Information Science.
• Six years of relevant experience may substitute for the degree.
• 10–15 years of underwriting experience.
• 10–15 years of experience in the insurance industry.
• Strong creative thinking, risk management, analytical, conflict management, solution recommendation, and relationship-building skills.
• Work from Pennsylvania, United States.

• Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) certification.
• Health Insurance Associate (HIA) certification.
• Managed Healthcare Professional (MHP) certification.
• Society of Actuaries affiliation or certification.
