Software Engineer, Platform (TypeScript/Node.js)

Location: Boston, MA, USA; the company operates in a 100% distributed setting with no office.

Salary: $140,000–$200,000 USD per year, plus bonus and stock, depending on experience.

What you will do

• Design, build, and own backend APIs for payments, subscriptions, authentication, consumption tracking, and the public TTS API.
• Improve inherited services by making them faster, cheaper, more reliable, and harder to break.
• Establish correctness before releases and create automated checks that preserve system reliability.
• Automate repetitive operational work and turn one-time solutions into repeatable team practices.
• Design B2B and enterprise integrations for customers building on the platform.
• Collaborate with product, mobile, and web teams to keep backend architecture aligned with product growth.

Requirements

• Proven backend experience with TypeScript and Node.js.
• Direct experience with GCP and working knowledge of AWS, Azure, or another cloud platform.
• Experience taking ownership of systems, validating results against logs and database state, and making sound decisions about what not to build.
• Daily experience using AI agents, including the ability to explain what runs unattended, what is reviewed, and where autonomous action is restricted.
• Ability to receive feedback, delegate former areas of ownership, and create more scalable ways of working.

Nice to have

• Experience with Docker and containerized deployments.
• Experience deploying high-availability applications on Kubernetes.
