Staff AI Engineer (AI)

Location: Remote within the United States

Base salary: $190,000–$210,000 per year

What you will do

• Own the architecture and implementation of distributed, high-scale backend systems and APIs serving machine learning models in production.
• Lead AI integration across product lines, including real-time and batch inference with LLMs, transformers, and classification models.
• Fine-tune and deploy pre-trained models from platforms such as Hugging Face and OpenAI for mission-critical use cases.
• Define standards for backend engineering, MLOps, model governance, observability, automation, and security.
• Mentor engineers and collaborate with product, ML research, data engineering, and DevOps leaders.
• Drive AI strategy, technical roadmaps, root-cause analysis, and performance tuning for reliable and scalable systems.

Requirements

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 2+ years at Staff Engineer level or equivalent.
• 4+ years of backend development with TypeScript, Node.js, and SQL-based relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL.
• At least 1 year deploying AI or ML models to production, including hands-on fine-tuning of LLMs or transformer-based models.
• Strong knowledge of system architecture, AWS cloud infrastructure, scalable API design, and model deployment practices.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, dbt, Dagster, data pipelines, technical leadership, and cross-team mentoring.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
