Software Engineer, Platform (TypeScript/Node.js)

Location: Cary, NC, USA

Salary: $140,000–$200,000 per year, plus bonus and stock, depending on experience.

What you will do

• Design, build, and own APIs for payments, subscriptions, authentication, consumption tracking, and the public text-to-speech API.
• Improve inherited services by making them faster, more cost-efficient, reliable, and resilient.
• Establish correctness checks before deployment and maintain automated safeguards after release.
• Automate repetitive operational work and turn successful solutions into repeatable practices for the wider team.
• Design B2B and enterprise integrations for customers building on the platform.
• Collaborate with product, mobile, and web teams to evolve backend architecture ahead of product needs.

Requirements

• Proven backend development experience with TypeScript and Node.js.
• Direct experience with Google Cloud Platform and working knowledge of AWS, Azure, or another cloud provider.
• Experience using AI agents in daily engineering workflows, including defining what runs unattended and what requires review.
• Strong judgment in validating results against logs, database state, and actual requests rather than summaries.
• Ability to take ownership, reduce system dependency on individual contributors, and explain why work should or should not be built.

Nice to have

• Experience with Docker and containerized deployments.
• Experience deploying highly available applications on Kubernetes.

Hiring process

• Several technical interviews followed by a take-home assessment using a real codebase.
• The assessment includes two stages: submission, feedback from an engineer, and time to apply the feedback.
• The process is intended to finish within one week and includes a walkthrough of the candidate's reasoning.
