Manager, Underwriting - Commercial Lines

Location: Remote work may be performed from any of the lower 48 U.S. states; office location listed as Des Moines, Iowa. Frequent travel to client or meeting locations may be required.

Salary: $97,000–$180,000 annually; expected starting range: $97,000–$145,000.

What you will do

• Lead, coach, and develop a team of approximately eight to 12 underwriting associates.
• Manage commercial lines underwriting activity, portfolios, territories, workload allocation, service levels, and underwriting results.
• Apply underwriting appetite, authority, pricing, coverage, documentation, legal, and compliance standards to complex risks.
• Build agency relationships and collaborate with Sales, Business Development, Product, Automation, Claims, and other underwriting partners.
• Drive profitable growth, retention, risk selection, corrective action, customer service, and agency performance.
• Lead process, workflow, reporting, automation, and continuous-improvement initiatives.

Requirements

• Eight to 10 years of commercial lines underwriting experience preferred, with experience in Small Commercial Lines, products, and underwriting appetite.
• Supervisory or management experience desired, including team leadership, performance management, hiring, training, and development.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience preferred.
• Knowledge of commercial property and casualty underwriting, field operations, loss control, commercial contracts, sales, claims, and service operations.
• Strong analytical, decision-making, communication, influencing, negotiation, and team-development skills.
• Completion of INS and/or AU designations required; CIC or CPCU preferred.
