Operating Engineer (HVAC)

Location: Calgary, Alberta, Canada. On-site work across assigned properties, including regular travel between properties and rotating weekday shifts from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; weekend availability is required for on-call rotations.

Salary: CAD 72,250–85,000 per year.

What you will do

• Operate, maintain, inspect, and repair mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems for assigned properties.
• Maintain chillers, boilers, pumps, cooling towers, fan coil units, VAV systems, air distribution systems, generators, and water systems.
• Perform preventive maintenance, equipment adjustments, repairs, lubrication, filter replacement, and water-treatment activities.
• Monitor energy management systems and building equipment to maintain comfortable and efficient operating conditions.
• Inspect fire and life safety equipment, emergency exits, pumps, electrical rooms, and other building infrastructure.
• Document activities, report issues, and respond to emergencies, equipment failures, evacuations, and customer concerns.

Requirements

• 4th Class Power Engineer Certification required.
• High school diploma or GED equivalent and at least 3 years of related commercial property experience.
• Experience operating and repairing HVAC, boilers, heaters, pumps, refrigerant systems, compressors, and water systems.
• Knowledge of energy management systems, building operations, maintenance, repair, applicable codes, and safe work practices.
• Valid driver’s license and good driving record; basic skills in Outlook, Excel, and Word.
• Ability to lift at least 50 pounds, work shifts or on call, travel between properties, and work extended periods during emergencies.

Nice to have

• Graduate of an apprentice program or trade school.
• Additional trade licenses or permits, such as electrician, refrigeration, boiler, or high-pressure steam certifications.
• Universal Technician certification for CFCs where required by local licensing rules.
