Director - Data Architect (Microsoft Data & AI)

Location: Remote in the United States; listed location: Austin, TX

Salary: $190,000–$230,000 per year

What you will do

• Advise client business and technology stakeholders on Microsoft Data & AI architecture.
• Lead discovery sessions, architecture workshops, solution design, modernization roadmaps, and implementation guidance.
• Architect lakehouse and data platform solutions using Microsoft Fabric, OneLake, Azure Databricks, ADLS, Delta Lake, and Power BI.
• Define Medallion Architecture, data products, semantic layers, governance, metadata, lineage, security, and data quality patterns.
• Design AI-ready platforms supporting Azure AI Foundry, Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Search, RAG, vector search, Fabric Data Agents, and Agentic AI.
• Support presales, technical presentations, estimation, proposals, and mentorship of architects and engineering teams.

Requirements

• 12+ years of technology experience, including enterprise data platforms, cloud, analytics, and architecture.
• 5+ years of architecture or senior technical leadership experience delivering large-scale enterprise data solutions.
• Deep experience with Microsoft Azure and strong experience with Microsoft Fabric and/or Azure Databricks.
• Strong technical foundation in SQL, Python, Spark, distributed processing, data modeling, integration patterns, and APIs.
• Experience with Azure AI Foundry, Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Search, Generative AI, RAG, vector search, Agentic AI, Microsoft Purview, and Unity Catalog.
• Strong client discovery, presales, executive communication, presentation, estimation, and proposal development skills.

Nice to have

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline.
• Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Fabric, and/or Databricks certifications.
