Virtual Chief Information Security Officer (vCISO)

Location: Remote within a U.S.-centered operating environment; resources are based in New York City, Albany, Austin, Chicago, and Salt Lake City, with remote and onsite work as needed across a wider U.S. geography.

Annual pay: $150,000–$200,000

What you will do

• Provide strategic cybersecurity advisory, compliance oversight, and security program leadership for client organizations.
• Act as an extension of client information security management and governance functions through a fractional vCISO model.
• Develop and oversee information security programs, controls, roadmaps, action plans, dashboards, and performance metrics.
• Lead security assessments, gap analyses, remediation planning, business continuity planning, and incident response coordination.
• Manage, mentor, and provide technical direction to security analysts.
• Support business development through client discovery, statements of work, RFP responses, expert content, panel discussions, and solution architecture.

Requirements

• Experience as a CISO or readiness to perform the vCISO function.
• Expert knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks and regulations, including NIST, ISO, CMMC, PCI, COBIT, DFARS, and HIPAA.
• Hands-on experience coordinating and overseeing incident response.
• Strong understanding of IT risk across applications, infrastructure, networks, and vendors.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Accounting, MIS, or comparable professional experience.
• CISA, CISM, CISSP, or similar certification or experience, plus strong communication, leadership, and project management skills.
