General Counsel (AI)

Location: San Francisco, CA, United States; on-site five days a week

Salary: $310,000–$392,000 USD per year, plus competitive equity and bonus

hirify.global provides an API that converts web pages into clean, LLM-ready markdown or structured data for AI agents and AI companies.

What you will do

• Set legal strategy and risk posture for web data access, robots.txt, publisher opt-outs, data provenance, AI training data, agents, and machine-generated output.
• Lead corporate, financing, governance, board, cap table, equity plan, and corporate secretary responsibilities.
• Set commercial legal positions covering risk allocation, indemnities, data provenance, approval thresholds, and negotiation fallback positions.
• Lead privacy, security, and compliance strategy covering GDPR, CCPA, the EU AI Act, state AI laws, SOC 2, sanctions, and export issues.
• Manage open-source licensing, contributor terms, trademarks, employment and contractor matters, and cross-border IP assignment.
• Build and lead the legal team, manage outside counsel and the legal budget, and represent hirify.global in policy discussions with regulators and legislators.

Requirements

• 12+ years of legal experience, including running or helping run legal in-house at a venture-backed technology company.
• Experience across corporate, financing, governance, commercial, product, data, and IP matters, with deep expertise in at least one area.
• Strong point of view on web data, AI, and copyright, with the ability to advise on unsettled legal questions.
• Experience building or managing a legal team and overseeing outside counsel and budgets.
• Membership in good standing in at least one US state bar, plus California bar membership or eligibility to register as in-house counsel in California.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States; US visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

• J.D. from a T14 law school or comparable academic credentials.
• Training at an Am Law 100 or similarly sophisticated firm.
• Experience with data licensing, privacy, IP, open source, or data-access disputes.
