Senior Corporate Counsel (AI/Fintech)

Location: Remote within the United States; preference for candidates based in the San Francisco Bay Area or New York City.

Starting base salary: $180,000–$220,000 per year, plus pre-IPO equity.

Owner builds an AI-native operating system for local businesses, starting with restaurants and combining websites, online ordering, CRM, POS, payments, and other operational tools.

What you will do

• Serve as embedded legal counsel to Product, Engineering, and Payments teams from product concept through launch.
• Advise on AI-powered products, training data, model risk, algorithmic decision-making, disclosures, and emerging AI regulation.
• Guide embedded payments, money movement, card network rules, PCI-DSS considerations, and fintech-related regulatory compliance.
• Build product privacy program elements covering data collection, retention, consumer disclosures, CCPA/CPRA, GDPR, and state privacy laws.
• Draft and negotiate technology, data, and AI vendor agreements, including data and model licensing terms.
• Build legal playbooks, templates, and self-serve tools; support privacy and AI incident response and manage outside counsel.

Requirements

• J.D. and active bar membership in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
• 6+ years of legal experience, including meaningful in-house product counsel experience at a technology company.
• Direct experience advising on AI/ML products and familiarity with the emerging AI regulatory landscape.
• Experience with fintech or payments products, including embedded payments, money movement, or card issuing.
• Substantive privacy law experience covering CCPA/CPRA, GDPR, and comprehensive state privacy laws.
• Ability to translate complex legal requirements into practical guidance and build processes in a fast-moving environment.

Nice to have

• Experience in restaurant technology, hospitality technology, or vertical SaaS.
• Experience with digital accessibility compliance, ADA Title III risk, or WCAG conformance.
