Director - Specialty Fibers (Textiles)

Location: Hong Kong; Italy; London, England, United Kingdom; Shanghai, China; Shenzhen, China

Base salary: $1–$2 USD. Bonus and equity may also be provided for eligible roles.

What you will do

• Lead the end-to-end specialty-fiber supply chain from sourcing and production through finished yarn.
• Build and develop supplier partnerships with mills, dehairers, spinners, and dye houses.
• Define quality standards, testing protocols, approval workflows, and corrective action programs for specialty fibers and yarns.
• Drive multi-sourcing, nearshoring, traceability, sustainability, and vertical-integration strategies.
• Advise executive leadership on fiber markets, geopolitical risks, climate impacts, tariffs, and supply availability.
• Collaborate with sourcing, design, merchandising, product development, production, and quality teams to translate product concepts into manufacturable technical specifications.

Requirements

• Degree in Textile Science, Fiber Engineering, Material Science, Supply Chain Management, Color Chemistry, or a related field.
• 15+ years of experience in specialty-fiber sourcing, yarn production, quality management, or coloration for apparel, accessories, or home textiles.
• Deep knowledge of cashmere, merino, yak, alpaca, cotton, and woolen and worsted spinning processes.
• Leadership experience managing and developing cross-functional teams in retail or manufacturing.
• Strong cost-per-kilogram modeling, yield optimization, landed-cost analysis, and budget-management skills.
• Experience establishing quality standards and supplier-compliance programs, with strong communication skills for technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Experience with sustainable fibers and supply-chain traceability, including blockchain or digital tracking systems.
• Familiarity with PLM systems and quality database management.
• Experience with luxury apparel, home goods, or accessories, including premium aesthetics, handfeel, and trend forecasting.
