Director of Agricultural Development (Agricultural Policy)

Location: On-site in Washington, DC; must be based there and able to travel domestically.

What you will do

• Own engagement with USDA, including NRCS, FSA, RMA, ARS, ERS, and NIFA at national, regional, and local levels.
• Identify and secure USDA conservation funding vehicles for precipitation enhancement, including grants, cooperative agreements, and cost-share programs.
• Lead Farm Bill strategy, legislative proposals, appropriations language, and engagement with House and Senate Agriculture Committees.
• Build relationships with Congressional offices, agricultural coalitions, state agencies, conservation organizations, extension services, and producer groups.
• Align federal programs with state and basin water priorities and translate producer needs into actionable federal programs.
• Organize field demonstrations and site visits for USDA, Congressional, state, and agricultural stakeholders.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in agricultural policy, conservation policy, or agricultural government relations.
• Thorough knowledge of USDA operations across national, state, and regional levels.
• Strong understanding of USDA conservation and water programs and how producers access them.
• Demonstrated command of Farm Bill authorization, reauthorization, conservation and research titles, and annual appropriations.
• Current relationships across USDA, Congressional agriculture committees, and the Washington agricultural community.
• Must be based in Washington, DC and able to travel domestically for agency meetings, Congressional engagement, regional visits, coalition work, and demonstrations.
