Sr Software Development Engineer (Kubernetes)

Location: Reston, Virginia, USA; may require on-site work at client locations in the DC, MD, and VA area. At least 50% of each quarter must be spent in the office or in the field.

Annual base salary: $163,800–$245,800 USD for the primary location; additional U.S. locations offer $148,200–$264,000 USD.

What you will do

• Run, manage, and scale containerized workloads on Kubernetes clusters in AWS GovCloud.
• Automate infrastructure, configuration, and deployment pipelines with Terraform, Terragrunt, Docker, AWS, and Argo CD.
• Design and maintain air-gapped deployment methods for secure and isolated environments.
• Build monitoring, logging, alerting, and telemetry systems to improve platform reliability and visibility.
• Troubleshoot complex distributed-system, infrastructure, and network issues.
• Collaborate with development, security, and cross-functional teams; document architecture and mentor engineers.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship is required for work supporting U.S. federal government contracts.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government TS/SCI security clearance with CI Polygraph; an active TS/SCI with CI Polygraph is strongly preferred.
• For the senior level: 5+ years of experience with production cloud infrastructure, DevOps pipelines, or platform engineering.
• For the senior level: 3+ years with Terraform or Terragrunt, CI/CD or GitOps tools, modern programming or scripting languages, and technical leadership.
• Experience with Kubernetes, AWS, Docker, distributed systems, observability, and enterprise security or compliance practices.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field, or equivalent military or practical engineering experience.

Nice to have

• Experience with AWS GovCloud, air-gapped architectures, Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, FedRAMP, NIST 800-53, or Zero Trust architecture.
• DoD 8570/8140 IAT Level II or higher certification and a current Computing Environment credential.
• Go or Python development experience.
