Plant Operator - Cylinder Prep (Industrial Gas)

Location: Onsite in Chicago, Illinois, United States. First shift: Tuesday–Friday, 4:30 AM–3:00 PM; Saturday–Monday off.

Salary: $23–$26 per hour, plus a 5% gainshare bonus and a $1,000 retention bonus after six months of employment.

What you will do

• Process and repair serviced gas cylinders for new gas production.
• Sort cylinders, perform pre-fill inspections, and connect cylinders to gas manifolds.
• Conduct leak checks, pressure checks, venting, purging, and vacuum processing.
• Scrape and paint cylinders, change valves and pressure relief devices, and perform cylinder maintenance.
• Move, load, and unload cylinders using forklifts, handcarts, and safe cylinder-handling techniques.
• Maintain valve and cylinder inventory, operate basic compressors and vacuum equipment, and keep the work area orderly.

Requirements

• One year of hands-on manufacturing or processing experience; industrial gas experience is preferred.
• Ability to read and understand material safety data sheets and identify gas hazards.
• Strong verbal and written communication, attention to detail, and ability to work independently under deadline pressure.
• Ability to safely operate a forklift; forklift qualification and inspection training will be supported.
• Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 pounds without assistance, and work in hot and cold environments.
• Ability to perform frequent bending, crouching, reaching, grasping, and other physical activities, and to detect leaking gas by smell and hearing.
