Senior Software Engineer (Python)

Location: Remote-first, distributed across the UK, with occasional social get-togethers and workshops usually at most once per quarter.

Salary: Up to £90,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience.

What you will do

• Develop and support Python microservices, web applications, API integrations, and internal tools.
• Architect, develop, and scope new systems, services, and integrations from cradle to grave.
• Ensure systems are reliable, efficient, well instrumented, secure, and compliant with customer data and privacy requirements.
• Work with DevOps engineers to deploy and operate services on Kubernetes clusters and other environments.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to shape technical roadmaps and future deliverables.
• Support and mentor junior engineers while maintaining high engineering standards.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of professional experience with modern typed and asynchronous Python.
• Experience operating live systems where customer data and services are at stake, with a strong understanding of risk and change management.
• Significant experience with Linux system and process administration and container technologies such as Docker.
• Experience working remotely in a fully distributed team and communicating effectively with technical and operations stakeholders.
• Structured and analytical thinking demonstrated through a degree-level qualification in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or equivalent professional experience.
• Systems-thinking skills, including experience with distributed systems, business events, real-time systems, and reliable system design.

Nice to have

• Experience with Kubernetes, Amazon EKS, GitOps, CI/CD workflows, and GitLab.
• Experience with VueJS, TypeScript, JavaScript, or NodeJS.
• Experience with Rust, pyO3, SQL databases, PySpark, Databricks, or Delta Lake.
• Experience with distributed systems, RabbitMQ, RESTful API design, or telecoms operational and business support systems.
