Senior Backend Engineer (Python)

Location: 100% remote; work from home

Salary: £75,000–£90,000 per annum, depending on experience

What you will do

• Build customer- and campsite-focused features using Python.
• Scope and implement backend features with the Product Owner and engineering colleagues.
• Modernise the backend architecture while decomposing the existing monolith.
• Explore event-driven architecture, microservices, and other approaches to accelerate delivery.
• Improve development practices across the engineering team.

Requirements

• 5–7 years of backend development experience, ideally in a scaling business.
• Strong proficiency in Python and understanding of software architecture and microservices.
• Structured problem-solving and the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
• Experience working in an Agile development team.
• Ability to plan, prioritise, work independently, and collaborate effectively.
• Appreciation of the challenges involved in building adaptive and responsive websites.

Nice to have

• Experience with event-driven architecture, continuous delivery, feature flags, event sourcing, branch-by-abstraction, or BDD.
• Knowledge of the online travel agency sector.
• Experience with internal and third-party APIs.
• Understanding of SOLID principles and modern backend development.
• Experience with the listed technology stack or a related degree.
