Senior AI Software Engineer

Location: Hybrid – London, UK. Applicants must have the right to work in the location to which they have applied.

Salary: £76,900–£123,500 GBP base salary, plus bonus or commission.

What you will do

• Design, implement, and maintain software features across varied languages, frameworks, and internal codebases.
• Integrate AI capabilities through model and API integration, prompt and context design, retrieval, orchestration, and supporting infrastructure.
• Build evaluations, automated tests, and guardrails to make AI behaviour measurable, stable, secure, and cost-effective.
• Use agentic coding tools and AI workflows to improve development speed, test coverage, documentation, and reduce manual effort.
• Prototype solutions, investigate unfamiliar systems, and deliver maintainable changes across partner teams.
• Contribute to CI/CD, automation, developer tooling, knowledge sharing, and responsible AI data handling.

Requirements

• Degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 8+ years of professional software development experience and a record of shipping reliable software.
• Experience with agentic coding tools such as Claude Code or Codex, including custom extensions.
• Proficiency in at least one programming language and ability to become productive in others quickly.
• Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, concurrency, networking, APIs, testing, and basic security.
• Right to work in the UK application location; willingness and ability to obtain Government Security Clearance if required.

Nice to have

• AI/LLM integration experience with APIs, RAG, tool calling, agent frameworks, or hosted and local inference.
• Experience improving legacy systems through testing, refactoring, and technical-debt reduction.
• Experience across desktop, mobile, backend, or systems software.
• CI/CD experience with GitLab, Docker, or Kubernetes, plus Python for automation.
• Experience or interest in security-sensitive environments and awareness of usability and user experience.
