District Planning Specialist

Location: Hybrid role based at the Whittier Service Center in California; employees must work and reside in California. The position includes up to 25% travel and field work throughout the SCE service territory, with possible extended assignments at alternate locations.

What you will do

• Develop electrical distribution plans, construction drawings, circuit maps, calculations, resource plans, and cost estimates using current SCE standards.
• Support residential, commercial, and industrial distribution projects involving overhead and underground facilities.
• Manage work orders and projects, including scope, schedules, budgets, risks, escalations, and customer expectations.
• Coordinate project requirements with customers, internal departments, engineering, government agencies, and external stakeholders.
• Perform field inspections, collect planning data, and verify that projects comply with approved plans.
• Provide technical support for licensing and certification proceedings involving distribution and transmission infrastructure.

Requirements

• At least one year of experience in electrical utility distribution, transmission, telecommunications design or construction, or engineering.
• Valid Class C driver's license.
• Basic understanding of engineering principles, construction standards, and industry practices.
• Ability to read or create simple distribution or technical drawings and maintain accuracy while priorities change.
• Ability to collaborate with customers, peers, management, agencies, and other stakeholders.
• Must work and reside in California; the role requires hybrid attendance and field travel.

Nice to have

• Experience with CAD, GIS, or similar design systems.
• Experience with Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Experience in project coordination, customer service resolution, quality control, map review, or utility environments.
• Planner Utility Certification Program completion.
• Training or education in engineering, drafting, construction, mapping, mathematics, science, or IT.
