TL;DR
Scientist II, Delivery for Large Gene Insertion (Gene Editing): Developing and benchmarking non-viral methods for nucleic acid donor template delivery to enable recombinase-based large gene insertion with an accent on donor template stability, intracellular trafficking, and nuclear availability. Focus on building quantitative delivery assays, connecting measurements to insertion efficiency and fidelity, and validating approaches in therapeutically relevant cell-based and in vivo systems.

Location: Emeryville, California, United States. Applicants must already have ongoing U.S. work authorization and must not require employer sponsorship.

Hiring salary range: $144,000–$160,000 USD annually, plus equity participation.

Company

hirify.global is an AI biology lab building foundation models for biological molecules and solutions for medicine, agriculture, and related applications.

What you will do

  • Lead the development, evaluation, and benchmarking of non-viral methods for nucleic acid donor template delivery and recombinase-based large gene insertion.
  • Design hypothesis-driven experiments to overcome donor template stability, intracellular trafficking, and nuclear availability barriers.
  • Develop quantitative assays and connect delivery measurements to targeted insertion efficiency and fidelity.
  • Analyze data and communicate conclusions, timelines, risks, and go/no-go recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with translational teams to validate delivery approaches in therapeutically relevant cell-based and in vivo systems.
  • Mentor junior colleagues and stay current with gene editing, delivery systems, clinical applications, and cellular models.

Requirements

  • PhD in molecular biology, biochemistry, bioengineering, or a related field, plus 2–4 years of academic or biotechnology experience.
  • Track record of solving impactful problems in gene editing, in vivo delivery, or protein engineering.
  • Experience developing mechanistic cell-based assays and troubleshooting complex biological systems.
  • Strong hands-on experience with molecular cloning, nucleic acid construct design, and mammalian cell engineering.
  • Extensive experience with NGS-based assays for evaluating genome editing outcomes and independently leading multifaceted research projects.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship is required.

Nice to have

  • Experience with process automation, scaling, and high-throughput workflows.
  • Experience with disease-relevant primary cells and translating discovery work into preclinical development.

Culture & Benefits

  • Cross-functional collaboration across AI and machine learning, protein design, cell biology, and gene editing.
  • Competitive compensation with equity participation.
  • 401(k) with a strong employer match.
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance, plus generous paid time off.
  • Professional development opportunities in AI and biology.

Hiring process

  • Applicants should expect evaluation of research experience, technical expertise, communication skills, and ability to lead complex projects.
