What you will do

• Design and implement protein-based biosensor engineering strategies using rational and computational design, directed evolution, and combinatorial libraries.
• Build and characterize protein variants through scalable high-throughput workflows, including library generation, mammalian-cell expression, and custom assays.
• Collaborate with machine learning specialists to link protein sequences and structures to function and guide future construct generation.
• Investigate the mechanisms of complex biomolecules and translate biophysical insights into new protein designs.
• Develop screening and validation methods to accelerate the design-build-iterate cycle and support progression toward in vivo applications.

Requirements

• PhD in Bioengineering, Biophysics, Biochemistry, or a related field, or equivalent experience leading research projects end-to-end.
• Experience with biosensors or proteins with novel functionality.
• Proficiency in library construction, protein expression in mammalian cells, and standard protein characterization.
• Comfort with computational approaches to protein engineering and their fundamental principles.
• Strong mechanistic and biophysical reasoning, with the ability to collaborate across disciplines.

Nice to have

• Experience engineering multi-state proteins or multi-component protein assemblies.
• Experience with protein expression in primary neurons, brain organoids, or brain tissues.
• Experience with ultrasound, optical, photophysical, or photochemical projects.
• Experience with large-scale screening, creative assay development, machine learning, or data-driven design.
