Spacecraft Propulsion Systems Engineer I (Propulsion Systems): Developing and owning spacecraft propulsion systems and components through conceptual design, detailed CAD, testing, and qualification with an accent on fluidic systems, performance analysis, and flight hardware. Focus on planning and executing propulsion tests, analyzing test data, managing technical risks, and guiding end-to-end product development.

Location: Long Beach, California, United States; onsite role

Base salary: $82,000–$123,000 USD annually. Total compensation including equity: $89,000–$125,000 USD annually.

What you will do

  • Own the development of spacecraft propulsion products and systems from concept through production, qualification, and acceptance testing.
  • Create conceptual and detailed CAD designs, performance calculations, and analyses for propulsion components.
  • Plan, set up, instrument, execute, and analyze propulsion tests.
  • Review drawings, 3D PMI, reports, specifications, qualification documentation, and flight hardware release decisions.
  • Manage schedules, priorities, technical risks, and communication with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Mentor engineers and technicians and contribute to engineering processes, documentation, and training.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience in propulsion system development or another high-performance engineering field.
  • U.S. citizenship is required due to program requirements.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
  • Ability to work in a production environment involving extended periods of sitting, standing, walking, and computer work, with occasional exposure to noise, dust, and fumes.

Nice to have

  • Mechanical design experience with NX or equivalent CAD software and PLM tools such as Teamcenter or Windchill.
  • Experience with electrical or chemical storable-propellant systems, flight hardware, design reviews, and release documentation.
  • Experience developing requirements and verification sets, test plans, test reports, and end-to-end qualification processes.
  • Python skills for data manipulation and post-processing, plus hands-on integration and testing with National Instruments equipment.
  • Experience with GD&T, engineering drawings, troubleshooting, and a master’s degree or PhD in engineering.
