Staff Software Engineer (Backend)

Location: Remote - United States

Base salary: $217,000–$303,000 USD per year, plus potential equity and commission depending on the position.

What you will do

• Design reliable, low-latency technical solutions for consumer products in partnership with Product Management, Design, Data Science, and client engineering teams.
• Own major product initiatives from technical design documents and API contracts through development, testing, rollout, and observability.
• Design, build, and evaluate A/B experiments using behavioral, conversion, and retention metrics.
• Build and maintain scalable GraphQL, REST, and gRPC APIs and distributed backend services.
• Improve engineering practices and developer workflows while mentoring teammates and using AI-assisted tools.

Requirements

• 7+ years of hands-on backend development experience with large-scale distributed serving systems in high-concurrency environments.
• Proficiency in Go or Python; experience with Java, Kotlin, Rust, or C++ is also relevant.
• Expertise designing and maintaining scalable APIs with GraphQL, REST, or gRPC for mobile and web applications.
• Experience with high-throughput caching layers and distributed datastores such as Redis, Cassandra, or PostgreSQL.
• Strong user focus, data-informed decision-making, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Experience or interest in AI-assisted engineering tools.
