Senior Software Engineer (Safety Experience)

Location: San Francisco Bay Area or remote within the U.S.

Salary: $196,000–$245,000 annual U.S. base salary, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Lead development of user-facing products that protect Discord users.
• Design, build, and deploy production APIs, backend services, and data pipelines for safety features at scale.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, Policy, Data Science, ML, Legal, and Trust & Safety Operations.
• Improve internal tooling that supports Trust & Safety workflows.
• Respond to evolving abuse and regulatory compliance requirements.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience with Python and backend API frameworks such as Flask or Django.
• 5+ years of experience developing web and mobile interfaces with JavaScript, React, and TypeScript.
• Experience with databases such as Cassandra, Postgres, and ScyllaDB.
• Experience leading complex projects end to end, coordinating rollouts, and aligning stakeholders.
• Ability to troubleshoot, debug, and test complex systems in production.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and data-driven decision-making skills.

Nice to have

• Experience in safety or anti-abuse systems.
• Experience with Datadog, Mode, Kafka, or Pub/Sub.
• Experience with offline analytics jobs and mobile features on iOS or Android.
• Exposure to Go, Rust, or Elixir.
